CUT UPS: Looking Back

Collage using cuttings from handmade pulp painted paper, salvaged from earlier work, on a base of Khadi paper.

On a base of an alizarin and saffron stained sheet of handmade Khadi paper from India, I play with imagery based on a kneling Venus figurine. The title, Looking Back, alludes to a person musing on her origins. The border references include Minoan, Cycladic, and Upper Paleolithic sculpture. I reflect on Gaugin’s queries. “Where do we come from?" What are we? Where are we going?”
